About

Every Spring we experience the perennial joy of seeing our gardens begin to flourish once again. The birdsong chorus sings us awake from sleepy winter, the daffodils blossom in a vibrant springtime parade and countless seedlings begin to bravely push their way out of the earth.
For many, this is the first time in months our gardens receive any attention. We are amazed at the beauty of life over ground. What tends to go un-noticed however is the very soil which makes all this magic happen.

Soil is Life. When we cultivate an awareness of the complex microbial system, which is responsible for feeding every human on the planet, it  must surely become a cultural priority to maintain and improve this system.

The Hare’s Corner is a project based outside Kinsale, co. Cork. We believe working with a field need not be a chore or merely a ‘means to an end’. It can be a beautiful process which nurtures the local ecosystem. Two things which bring about contentment in people are a connection to nature and eating good food. These go hand in hand. We shall explore these two things during the summer, check out our Sponsers page for more information.

‘The Hare’s Corner’ is the traditional idea of leaving a corner of your field unploughed as a mark of respect to the natural system. We wish to show to that if we simply pay attention to nature and work with it then we needn’t confine anything to the corner. The joy of seeing the purple phacelia blossom in Summer would be reward enough for its sowing. But Phacelia also improves soil structure with its root system. It smothers weeds and is listed as one of the top 20 bumblebee and hoverfly attractors (I needn’t talk about how fundamentally important bees are, but some may not know that hoverflies love to eat aphids in your garden).
